Install, modify, test, calibrate, repair, replace, troubleshoot, and maintain medium and high voltage electrical distribution systems and associated equipment to include transformers, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic recording instruments, mechanical and electronic control systems, and other circuit elements found in substations and/or power-generating facilities. Install, modify, connect, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution lines. Perform service on underground lines, substations, transformers, insulators, capacitor equipment, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, ground connects, and similar equipment. Determines jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required, procures materials, coordinates outages, completes work, places systems back into service. Responds to emergency calls and takes necessary actions. Plan the sequence of work and determine the nature of maintenance or repair needed. Determine the effects that alterations will have on the total system and for ensuring that lines and equipment function properly. Assist, review, and inspect work performed in-house or by contractors to ensure electrical systems are safe and reliable. Responsible for Maintaining records and single line diagram of UCI medium and high voltage systems. Assists in directing the work of other workers; conducts, logs, and reports safety training for the high voltage shop: writes switching procedure and reviews switching procedure written by others to ensure safety of equipment and personnel. May perform other electrical duties as required.

Serve as a work leader for high voltage crews and helpers assigned to specific jobs. Install, modify, test, repair, troubleshoot, operate, and maintain medium and high voltage electrical systems and associated equipment to include transformers, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic recording instruments, mechanical and electronic control systems, and other circuit elements found in substations and/or power-generating facilities. Perform service on underground lines, substations, transformers, insulators, capacitor equipment, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, ground connects, and similar equipment. Maintain inventory of high voltage trade equipment, documentation of equipment condition, maintenance, repairs, reports, and other required information. 75%
Provide technical assistance and supervision to skilled workers. Prepare and maintain a variety of records and paperwork regarding work performed and safety training. Takes the lead in responding to emergency calls and power outages by dictating the necessary steps and developing a power restoration plan. 5%
Assist with Planning and managing projects within the High Voltage trade. Prepare estimates, prints and submittals, of changes to electrical systems and components. Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and other skilled trades involved in maintenance and operation of the High Voltage System. Visually check the work of contractors for compliance with contract specifications on new construction, repairs, and equipment upgrades. Review the sequence of work and determine maintenance and repair needs. Determine the effects that alterations will have on the total system and for ensuring that lines and equipment function properly. 20%

Required Qualifications:
Skill in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment such as oscillators, phase sticks and rotation meters, digital test equipment, fault finding equipment, amp meters, voltmeters, meggers, graphic recorders, hot sticks, and insulated hoods/covers and tools.
Must possess a valid California driver license and participate in the DMV Employee Pull Notice program.
Must be available to work overtime when required.
Minimum of five years' experience performing skilled high voltage work.
Knowledge of high voltage electrical equipment and distribution lines such as transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, control systems, series and parallel, circuits, line loading, line losses.
Knowledge of electrical codes, utility standards, and safety programs as governed by rules, regulations and guidelines of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, equipment manufacturers, and others.
Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments used in shop and trade practices.
Knowledge and experience to maintain and use personal protective equipment, insulating and shielding materials, insulated tools, grounding devices, and test instruments.
Knowledge and Ability to plan and perform work involving the installation, modification and repair of new and existing high voltage electrical systems and related electronic control and protective equipment with minimal guidance by others while maintaining work continuity when unplanned events cause disruptions.
Current Department of Industrial Relations General Electrician (Journeyman) Certification
Ability to use energy isolation procedures and special precautionary techniques (lockout/tagouts, barricades, warning signs, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Rigging Certification
Experience in planning, directing, and training in high voltage work
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified.
