Position Information: Serves as the Lead Community Health Worker (CHW)/Trainer for Community Responsive & Engaged Equity Research (CREER) in Mental Health Center project within the Department of Psychiatry & Neuroscience, sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health & titled, 'Somos Esenciales: Community Revitalization & Health through Latino Arts & Entrepreneurship.' The study aims to improve mental health access & economic opportunity in the Mission District (MD) of San Francisco (SF) by expanding the community health workforce, strengthening partnerships across health, social, & economic sectors, & addresses upstream structural factors such as access to mental health care, stigma, & fragmented care systems. By integrating traditional healing practices, health promotion, & system coordination, the project aims to improve sustainable community resilience & to advance structural change to promote better mental health for all. Will work under the supervision of the Center Director & the Primary Academic Research Scientist, Dr. Lisa Fortuna, & with study faculty/staff, primarily the CHWs & other staff employed by Cultura y Arte Nativa de las Americas (CANA), the SF MD based organization that produces the annual Carnaval, & study partner Native American Health Center in support of the study, a mutliplatform intervention project to promote health equity & lasting change communities. The project brings together the cultural programming & indigenous healing informed community development strategy of CANA with the academic research capacity of the UC along w/ community partners like Native American Health Center, & others. As part of this 3-5 year NIH-sponsored research award (based on funding), this position involves providing culturally responsive support, guidance, & assistance for community members & their families as they navigate through complex community & healthcare environments. Primary goals are to increase community member wellness, & to optimize care/outcomes. The position acts as a communication liaison to understand community members' individual needs, desires, & concerns & as a referral source to care options that include various cultural healing practices. Works with the CHWs to guide the community members to services, amenities, & information to promote healing & ensure satisfaction w/ the care experience. Works directly w/community members in potentially complex mental & physical health situations & will provide guidance/oversight, including fidelity review & training, for other CHWs. Will also be involved in the co-design & implementation of research aims as they pertain to linkage to mental health & primary care needs.

The full salary range for the Lead CHW/Trainer is $62,900 - $110,100 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs
