Position Information: The Resident Director (RD) is a full-time, 12-month, live-in position and serves as a member of the Residential Education Professional staff team. The RD is responsible for resident orientation to community living; resident counseling; policy enforcement and adjudication; day and night on-site crisis response; curricular approach to student engagement; student staff recruitment, selection, training and evaluation; housing management and special projects. The RD provides a variety of support services to the residential students and assists with the management of the housing program. The residential facilities include residence halls, apartments and family housing.
This is a four (4) year contract appointment with the possibility to be extended for one (1) additional year for a maximum total of five (5) years.
The full salary range for the Resident Director is $57,700.00 - $99,300.00 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $58,700 annually in addition to housing and meal plan compensation. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.

May supervise clerical and/or student staff. Supervises a student staff of 8-20 student staff members. Monitors student employee performance and provides direction and assistance. Counsels and evaluates student employee performance. Recommends corrective action, hiring, and separation of student employees when appropriate.

Provides ongoing transformational advising and development to student leaders participating in student government, co-curricular programs and/or organizations on a wide range of issues. Advises student leaders on complex and sensitive issues. Brings extensive knowledge to a student generated field of interest and supports, guides and mentors students in formulating projects related to those issues. Guides students in interaction with campus leaders and represents students on these issues when appropriate. Coaches student leaders on communication and leadership skills.

Participates in the adjudication process for student conduct cases of moderate complexity. Interviews witnesses and writes up findings regarding alleged conduct violations. Provides guidance to lower level staff. Consults with higher level professionals as needed. Makes recommendations for sanctions.
